SEND mums call
❋ Time to breatheEach call starts with a few moments of guided breathing to give you time to settle in and begin to feel a bit calmer.
❋ Time to talkAt the heart of this call is time for you to talk - because we all need to be heard and we all have a story to tell.
Through listening to each other talk about our experiences, we get to remember that we’re not as alone as we sometimes feel.
❋ Time to listenAs a SEND mum, you are holding a lot. I see it every day in my work as a tutor for SEND students. And I think it’s high time you were held too.
It can often feel very lonely as the mum of a child or young person with Special Educational Needs. The outside world doesn’t always see the mothering we do and it can be so hard to find the right people to talk to about what we’re going through… people who won’t judge us… people who understand… people who know what it’s like inside our homes (and inside our heads!).
We need to know how to regulate ourselves. We need to process without spiralling. We need tools.
We need to be heard. We need come together. We need to realise we’re not alone.
We need each other.
What do we need?
I am a SEND mum too - all three of my children are now in their 20s. I have raised them on my own since 2015 and have supported them through various diagnoses, academic difficulties and mental health challenges. Sometimes I’ve nailed it and done a great job. Sometimes I haven’t. I’ve been learning alongside them and doing my best.
I’m also a qualified teacher and work as a 1:1 tutor for children and young people who are out of - or struggling in - school. I spend my days in and out of the houses of families who are navigating what it is to be a SEND parent right now. It’s my job to not only support my students in their learning but to support their parents too.
So I get it as a mum, and I get it as a teacher.
I’ve also spent the last decade learning how to manage my own energy and communication and how to reconnect back to myself and find my inner composure.
This is the work I’m meant to do.
Why can I help?
Day TwoSet Intentions & Reflect
Together, we pause to consider our goals, hopes, and direction. This is about aligning with ourselves and with the journey ahead. This is a chance to reconnect with what brought you here—your questions, your hopes, your turning points—and consider how they’ve shifted or deepened.
